Chemical Name: Tegaserod ( te-GAS-a-rod)

Zelnorm is for short term treatment of women who have Irritable Bowel Syndrome with constipation as their main bowel problem, and women younger than 65 years of age who have chronic constipation with an unknown cause. Zelnorm increases the movement of stools through the bowels but does not cure Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Zelnorm decreases pain and discomfort in the abdominal area, bloating and constipation. If you stop taking Zelnorm your Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms may return in one to two weeks.

SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medication include a bloated, full feeling, excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines, headache, nausea, and passing gas.
